Creative DIY Guide: Your Personal Meal Planner with Charm
Are you tired of cooking the same dishes week after week? Everyone has their go-to recipes that are quick and always serve as a backup solution. Especially when you’ve forgotten to go shopping or just don’t have a good idea for something different. A weekly meal planner can help out and provide more variety. Because when you plan ahead, you can shop accordingly.
A creative weekly meal planner is not just useful, but also a beautiful decorative piece. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll show you how to create your personal, unique meal planner.
Step 1: Prepare and decorate the base plate
Before you start, lay out all the elements on the plate to estimate how much space you’ll need for the individual pieces. If you want to modify the planner, now is the right time to take that into account.
Cut a square strip to the right length with a jigsaw or something similar, and glue it down with craft glue. After it dries, paint the plate along with the strip using concrete paint. To highlight certain areas, you can additionally lighten them with some white paint. Let everything dry well.
To make your planner more lively, decorate it with motif decoupage paper. Tear or cut the desired pieces and apply them with decoupage glue. Apply the glue with a brush from the inside out and adjust any uneven surfaces if necessary. Again: let everything dry well.
Step 2: Apply the text
While the base plate is drying, take the fence slats and clips to label them. If necessary, you can prime them with paint beforehand. For the magnetic holders, just apply paint, although they can also remain unpainted in their natural look.
At the top of the base plate, apply the text. A paper stencil will help you position the letters correctly. First, lightly trace them with a pencil, and then paint them in.
Step 3: Gluing, decorating, drilling
Once the paint is dry, glue the prepared elements onto the base plate using craft glue. Choose additional matching motifs from the motif decoupage paper and attach them as well with decoupage glue.
To hang the plate, carefully drill holes for the hooks. The diameter of the drill should be smaller than the screw thread of the hooks. Screw in the hooks and secure them well.
Make sure to leave enough space for the recipe bag. You may want to do this step last.
Step 4: Sewing and attaching the bag
Choose a piece of fabric and fold it as shown in the picture. The right edge should be only 1-2 cm wide. The other edge will depend on how deep you want the bag to be. It should provide enough space for your recipe notes. Sew the edges.
Determine the width of the bag, add seam allowance (at least 1 cm), and cut the fabric accordingly.
Now fold the raw edges inward, reassemble the bag, and sew the edges closed. Test with a recipe note to ensure it all fits.
Affix the finished note bag with craft glue firmly to your planner. Press it down well, and your personal meal planner is ready!
Have fun recreating and plan your weekly menus with ease!
