Photo Transfer Technique

Photo transfer technology is about transferring photos or images onto an object. This can be wood, paper, fabric, glass or even candles. This technique sets no limits to creativity. With this technique, photos can become beautiful gifts and unique decorative elements for adults and children. Immortalize your photos and favorite motifs on wood, fabric or canvases.

Transfer photos - On wood, paper and other surfaces

No matter what substrate material you want to use it is important that the surface is as light as possible. With photo transfer, there can always be slight color and contrast losses. In addition, the substrate should be free of dust and grease. If you have chosen wood as the substrate, we recommend that you sand the surface beforehand. The smoother the wood surface is, the better the result will be. Furthermore, you can apply a light color in advance if you wish. Next, you need to print your desired motif mirror-inverted in the appropriate size of the background on a laser printer. It is important that you print your design on a laser printer because the colors are not waterproof on an inkjet printer. Otherwise, the colors would run and smudge in contact with moisture, making the designs unusable. Use a brush to apply the transfer medium to the base and front of the photo. Place the coated side of the image on the desired area. It is best to use a ruler to press the image on evenly. The adhesive residues outside the image should be removed immediately with a cloth. In the above step, you need to work quickly so that nothing dries, because the photo quickly soaks and thus the optimal adhesive strength is lost. Then blow dry for 10 minutes on the highest setting and then let it cool well or let it dry for 24 hours at room temperature. After the drying time, moisten the paper layer with water and wait briefly until the paper has softened. Then rub away the paper layer with your fingers or with a soft sponge until only individual fibers are visible. What remains is the waterproof ink embedded in the Foto Transfer Potch. Finally, cleanly overcoat everything again with Foto Transfer Potch Overcoat; this will make the fine white paper residue disappear. The overcoat makes the colors of the image even more brilliant and gives the image even more depth. Furthermore, the overcoat helps prevent yellowing, dust, dirt and is waterproof at the same time.
