Paper Strips for Quilling
Quilling is an ancient paper crafting technique in which colorful paper strips are rolled up, shaped and glued together to create decorative paper artwork and figures. The basic shape in quilling is the circle or spiral. From this, by carefully squeezing the spiral, other shapes such as drops, leaves, tendrils, eyes, rhombuses, rectangles, figure eights, pretzels, triangles, etc. can be folded. Paper strips come in different widths and lengths. Mostly the strips are 450 mm long and 3 mm - 10 mm wide, but there are also strips with 35 mm width. The folding strips are available in different colors and with different patterns. With the quilling paper you can make flowers, animals, stars, butterflies, owls and more. Quilling sets for Easter and Christmas are also available.
How does Quilling work?
Quilling involves rolling up thin strips of paper. Beginners can try it with a toothpick; however, it is easier to roll up the paper strips with a quilling pen, because this has a slit in which one end of the strip can be clamped and held. Once rolled up, the pin is pulled out and the end of the paper strip is held in place with glue. In this way you can form small circles and squiggles. Let the shape rise a bit before fixing it and you will get larger spirals. Then you can work the spirals into further shapes by carefully pressing them in different places and finally creatively assemble the small individual shapes into pictures and quilling figures.
