The Décopatch brand
The history of the Décopatch brand began in France in 1993. Similar to the popular napkin technique, objects were to shine in a new look with little effort and material. The disadvantage of the napkin is that the wafer-thin paper layer is very sensitive and tears quickly when glued. Soon it was obvious - what was needed was a paper that is also very thin, but still robust and resistant. The idea of Décopatch paper was born.
In France, the Décopatch brand quickly became successful and became increasingly well known in the following years. So the range of products has been constantly developed and today, in addition to the huge selection of Décopatch papers, also consists of Décopatch papier-mâché figures, Paperpatch glue, Aquapro clear lacquers and much more.
In the VBS Onlineshop you will find a large selection of different Décopatch products at a glance.
Which materials are required for the Décopatch technique?
Décopatch paper
The very thin yet robust Décopatch paper weighs only 20 grams per square metre and has a format of 30 x 40 cm. The paper impresses its users by the fact that the paper does not tear when glued, does not soak through and remains colour-fast. This is what distinguishes the high quality of Décoptach papers. The papers are available in countless colours and patterns. You can also get Décopatch Pockets or Décopatch Paper Blocks with different papers that are colour-coordinated. This way you can find the right paper for every conceivable project.
Décopatch figures
For the Décopatch technique, you need a surface that you can stick on in addition to the papers. The Décopatch brand offers robust forms made of papier-mâché that can be designed to your own taste. So you will find a selection of different animals in many sizes, but also practical boxes in different shapes. Besides the papier-mâché shapes, the papers can also be applied to other surfaces such as wood, cardboard, terracotta, glass and plastic.
Paperpatch glue
Another important part of the Décopatch technique is the right adhesive. The Paperpatch adhesive is specially designed for handicraft work with Décopatch paper. It is water-based and solvent-free. With the Paperpatch adhesive the paper is glued to the surface and at the same time it forms a repellent protective layer. This thin layer can then be wiped off with water as soon as the paint is completely dry. The Paperpatch adhesive is available from us in four different weave sizes. So you can choose the right adhesive for the size of the object.
In addition to the Paperpatch adhesive, there is also an additional Aquapro clear lacquer. This was also specially produced for the Décopatch technique, is water-based and is available in high-gloss, silk matt and matt. The Aquapro-clear lacquer can be applied to the entire object afterwards. This creates a protective layer and gives you an even surface.
How to apply the Décopatch technique
The Décoptach technique is very simple and can be implemented by anyone with a little skill.
1. first, the fine décoptach paper is torn into small pieces by hand or cut into pieces with scissors. You can combine different types of paper.
2. apply a thin layer of Paperpatch glue to the surface to be covered. For example, take Décopatch forms made of papier-mâché. The paper is applied with a brush and glue and another layer of Paperpatch glue is applied.
3. apply the Décopatch papers to the entire surface. It is important that the pieces of paper are always placed slightly on top of each other so that the selected object is completely and uniformly covered with paper.
4. finally, you can apply one or two coats of clear varnish to protect the surface. You can choose between a glossy or matt finish.
