Marmorierte Kerzen
Instructions No. 3020Candles with a marbling effect not only look fascinating. They are also easy to make yourself. The marbling result is unique and individual every time.
Preparation
The candles are created using the "dip marbling" technique. Marbling is a particularly enjoyable creative activity, but it can cause paint splashes and drips. Therefore, first protect your workplace and your hands from paint splashes. Use disposable gloves and ideally also the VBS handicraft mat.
Attach a piece of warp yarn to the wick of each stick candle that you want to marble. You can use this yarn to loop your candles to dry later after the marbling process.
Prepare a hanging device for these candles and take the precaution of protecting the floor underneath from paint splatters. This could be a coat hanger on a ceiling hook, for example.
For marbling, you will need an old container that is large enough to dip the candles in. An unused bucket, for example, is suitable. Please note that any colour residue cannot be removed later.
How to marbleise
Fill your container with cold tap water. Shake the marble colours vigorously. Then add a few drops of the desired colours to the water. The marbling paint will stick to the surface of the water.Tip: Do not use too many different colours, as the result will look uneven.
Now you can use the bamboo stick to draw patterns in the colours: Lines, waves, curls.
Dip the candles into this pattern and then pull them out immediately: the marble paint will transfer from the water surface to the candle.
Hang the pillar candles to dry immediately after dipping. If you have marbled pillar candles, they can dry well on the underlay for crafting from VBS.
Want to marble a new pattern/colour effect?
You can remove the colour residue on the water surface by running a piece of paper through the water. Then simply add new drops of colour and draw a new pattern with a skewer.
Candle holder for stick candles
If you would like to design a matching candle holder for the stick candles, you can make one yourself using the stick candle holder casting mould and Keraflott casting compound:Mix 4 heaped tablespoons of the Keraflott casting compound with water and with 3 drops of colour concentrate to make a creamy mixture. Pour this into the "stick candle holder" casting mould. Tap lightly against the base of the mould to remove any air bubbles from the mixture.
After approx. 1 hour drying time, you can remove your new candle holder from the mould.
