Lampshade with Butterflies – Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1 – Apply Silk Paper
First, cut a strip of silk paper that is slightly higher than the lampshade and reaches a little more than once around the shade.
Apply a layer of napkin varnish on the shade, lay the silk paper on it, and reinforce it with another layer of varnish. Be particularly careful, as the delicate silk can tear quickly when moist.
Now take care of the edges: cut the silk paper about 1 cm below the shade, glue it around the edge, and repeat the varnishing. Again, apply a layer of varnish, lay the silk paper around, and seal with varnish.
Step 2 – The Swarm of Butterflies
Take the craft punch and punch about 80 butterflies from the white cardboard. For a 3D effect, the wings can be slightly folded upwards.
Now use the self-adhesive cork paper. Remove the backing paper and stick it on the white cardboard. Make templates for larger butterflies, cut them out of the reinforced cork paper, and fold the wings for more expression.
Step 3 – Arranging and Sticking the Butterflies
Now you can decide how the butterflies should "fly". Start with the larger butterflies and arrange them on the shade so that they are first dense and then become lighter as they go upwards. Stick them with craft glue.
Mount the finished lampshade on a lamp base of your choice and enjoy your new eyecatcher.
Done! You now have a unique decorative lampshade that is not only a light point in your home but also an example of your creative craftsmanship.
