Autumn is the perfect season to decorate your home with warm and inviting decorations. Our jute turkey stakes are not only an easy DIY project, but also perfect for involving the whole family. Whether for Thanksgiving or just as a colorful autumn touch - this guide shows you how to create your own vibrant turkey stake in a few simple steps.
1. Prepare the Stake
Start by pushing the wooden rods into the styrofoam balls. If this is difficult, you can pre-drill a hole with a skewer or something similar. It is important that you don't push it all the way through and that the wooden rod is firmly seated in the ball. If necessary, fix it with some hot glue.
Next, cut squares from jute: about 19 x 19 cm for small balls and about 25 x 25 cm for larger balls. Place the jute over the styrofoam balls and wrap them. Secure the whole thing with jute twine and a ribbon on the wooden rod. Make sure there are as few wrinkles as possible where the face will be.
2. Create the Turkey
Glue the eyes slightly higher than the center of the ball. Cut out feathers and beak parts from felt or cardboard.
Now you can attach all the parts with craft glue. Apply a generous amount of glue to the jute and on the felt/cardboard to securely fasten everything. With the feathers, you have the freedom to vary the size and shape or make them all the same. Creativity is key here: combine the colors and arrangements as you like!
Have fun creating!
