Make your own lanterns

I walk with my lantern and my lantern with me...every year, the popular lantern processions take place in many towns and villages in autumn. A great spectacle for young and old. A self-made and unique lantern is a must. Making your own lanterns is a great activity for the whole family and is especially fun for children. The children can design their lanterns according to their personal wishes and ideas and decorate them with many different craft materials. Self-made lanterns are often made from paper and cardboard, but old milk cartons, PET bottles, balloons and paper plates can also be a great basis for a lantern.

Tip: After the lantern procession, the self-made lantern can easily be hung up or placed in the children's room as a night light, lamp or decoration. This way, the child can remember making the lantern and the exciting lantern procession later on.

What do I need to make my own lanterns?

The basis of a self-made lantern is often a cardboard lantern blank. These are available in various shapes and colours in our VBS online shop. In addition to the blanks, you will also need some lantern foil or transparent paper. The paper and also the foil can then be designed according to your personal taste with bright colours, scatter pieces, other papers, glitter, pompoms and feathers. As soon as everything has been designed, the transparent paper or the lantern foil is simply stuck into the lantern from the inside with a little craft glue. Finally, attach a lantern stick to the lantern and place a light source such as an LED tea light or fairy lights in the finished lantern. It's that easy to make your own lantern.
