1) What is Chalk Paint?

2) How to Use Chalk Paint?

Step 1:

Before using chalk paint, ensure you stir the paint well and make sure the surface is dust- and grease-free. Then start painting the chosen surface with a sponge or brush. Choose the color you want to let shine through later. It doesn’t matter if the color is lighter or darker that you apply first. Since Shabby Chic paint dries very quickly, you should work swiftly. Feel free to try it with a sponge – you can paint large areas much faster and easier than with a brush.

Step 2:

When the first layer is dry, apply wax using a sponge or brush. Spread the wax everywhere, applying a good layer to enhance the final effect.

Step 3:

After applying the wax, use the sponge to apply the second layer of chalk paint and let it dry.

Step 4:

In the final step, use sandpaper – carefully sand off the upper layer of Shabby Chic paint so that the underlying color becomes visible again. It looks best when you sand the places that lose color with intensive use, often these are edges and corners. And there you have the perfect Vintage look. If the object is used a lot, you should apply a layer of lacquer afterward.

3) On Which Surface Can I Apply Chalk Paint?

You can paint almost anything with Shabby Chic paint. Chalk paint can be applied to absorbent surfaces like wood, clay, or sturdy cardboard, but also on non-absorbent materials like glass or lacquered wood. It looks exceptionally beautiful if you apply the chalk paint to glass with indentations – thus giving the glass a romantic Vintage look.

4) Is a Primer Needed?

A primer is not required. Depending on the material, you may need to apply the paint twice. For an exceptionally beautiful and soft surface, polish over it with simple kitchen paper at the end – this will make the surface completely soft and feel nice, and additionally, give it some gloss.
